40 Dress Sewing Patterns for Large Busts (Multiple Cup Sizes)

This round-up of dress sewing patterns with multiple cup sizes was inspired by my search for the perfect graduation dress. As someone with a larger bust, I have sworn to never do a full bust adjustment ever again unless I REALLY have to. And there really is no need for me to do so when there are so many large bust friendly sewing patterns out there.

In this blog post, I’m including sewing patterns with more than two custom cup sizes. These patterns offer options from A cup all the way to H cups. You will find that most dresses stop at D or DD cup sizes, but there are options that go well beyond this so just read my note about the size range in the descriptions I provide.

Sun dresses

Here we have large bust friendly sundresses. The best part about these is that they’ll cover your bra straps so you don’t have to wear a strapless bra.

Sorata dress by Itch to Stitch

The Sorata dress is a comfy maxi with an elasticised waist. It can be sewn sleeveless or with one of the two sleeve styles provided. The Sorata is available in cup sizes A–DD, sizes 00–40.

Simplicity S9919

Simplicity S9919 is a fun sundress with a sweetheart. The elasticated straps are separate from the sleeves. This dress is available in two size ranges: A/B–D, 4–20 and C–DD cup, sizes 20W–38W.

Holyoke dress by Cashmerette

I’ve sewn the Holyoke dress a couple of times and absolutely love it. This is a maxi with princess seams and a faux button placket. It’s elasticated at the back so it’s pretty easy to fit. This pattern comes in cup sizes C–H, sizes 0–32.

Butterick B6674

Butterick B6674 is a lovely sundress with a full button placket. It comes with two neckline and skirt length options. This is available in cup sizes A/B–D, sizes 6–22.

Boardwalk dress by Charm Patterns

The boardwalk dress is such a beautiful vintage sundress. It features a gathered bust and tiered skirt. There is also a sleeve expansion pack available. This pattern comes in cup sizes A–H cup, in sizes 2–20 and 18–34.

Knit dresses

This section lists knit dress patterns that come in several cup sizes so that you don’t have to find the apex to do an FBA (we all know that struggle!).

Skipper dress by Charm Patterns

The Skipper dress is a fitted knit dress with a wide scoop neckline a couple of sleeve options. It is available in cup sizes A–H in two size ranges, 2–20 and 18–34.

Grafton dress by Cashmerette

The Grafton dress comes as a mix and match pattern so be sure to check out the product page to see all the fun combinations you can make by switching out the necklines, sleeves etc. This dress is available in cup sizes C–H, sizes 0–32.

Felicia dress by Ellie and Mac

The Felicia dress is another versatile knit dress that allows you to experiment with different necklines, sleeve styles and skirt lengths. It’s available in cup sizes A–F, sizes XXS–6XL.

Mia dress by Pattern Scout

The Mia dress is the perfect knit dress for cooler weather. I love the fact that it has raglan sleeves; it generally has a modern silhouette. This pattern is available in three cup sizes B–D, sizes 0–30.

Sophia dress by Charm Patterns

Charm patterns are known for their vintage designs and the Sophia dress is named after Sophia Loren. Like most Charm patterns, this dress is available in cup sizes A–H, and in two size ranges, 2–20 and 18–34.

Sylvie dress by Ellie and Mac

I included the Sylvie dress in this round-up as it has a fun optional cut out. It also come in a few style variations. The Sylvie dress is available in cup sizes A through F, sizes XXS–6XL.

Wrap dresses

Next we have wrap dresses with multiple cup size options. When I first started sewing, I asked for a wrap top pattern as a gift and was so disappointed that I just couldn’t get it to fit. I really ought to give the wrap style another shot wit one of the options below. Just a heads up, this section has both knit and woven dresses.

The Milla dress is a nice cross between a shirt and wrap dress. This woven wrap dress comes in cup sizes A-DD, US sizes 2-26.

Romy dress by Pattern Scout

The Romy dress is a beautiful woven wrap dress with soft pleats and a tulip style skirt. It is available in three cup sizes B-D, sizes 0–30.

Shardee dress by Designer Stitch

The Shardee dress is a knit wrap dress that is quite reminiscent of the iconic Diane von Furstenberg 70s style wrap dresses. This pattern is available in cup sizes B-DD, US sizes 2–26.

Roseclair dress by Cashmerette

The Roseclair is another woven wrap dress but with bishop sleeves and the option of a tiered maxi skirt. This pattern comes in three cup sizes C–H, sizes 0–32.

Petaluma dress by Itch to Stitch

The Petaluma is such a great option for this category it is a faux wrap dress with a zipper in the back. It also has some fun sleeve options. This dress comes in cup sizes A–DD, sizes 00–20.

Appleton dress by Cashmerette

Lastly, we have the Appleton knit wrap dress. This is is described as a no-gape wrap dress due to the unique neckband construction method provided. The Appleton pattern comes cup sizes C–H, sizes 0–32.

Puff sleeve and gathered day dresses

This category features romantic dresses with puff sleeves and lots of gathers with the bonus of lots of cup size choices.

Vogue V2109

Vogue V2109 is a fit and flare dress with gathered elasticated puff sleeves, a gathered skirt and a sweetheart neckline. It’s available in cup sizes A/B–D, sizes 6–22.

Kosice dress by Itch to Stitch

The Kosice dress features raglan puff sleeves and a button placket down the front. This pattern is available in cup sizes A–DD, sizes 00–40.

Kora dress by Designer Stitch

The Kora dress is a pretty empire waist dress with a v-neckline, rouleau buttons on the buttons and a gathered sleeve. This dress comes in cup sizes A–D, US sizes 2–26.

Formal

This collection of large bust dress sewing patterns features dresses suitable for formal occasions and specialty fabrics.

Upton dress by Cashmerette

As an owner of the Upton pattern, I can confidently say that it works well as both occasion and casual day wear, depending on the fabric you use. It has over 350 combinations as it’s offered in multiple sleeve, dart, neckline and skirt length options. The Upton dress is available in cup sizes C–H, sizes 0–32.

Paris dress by Designer Stitch

The Paris pattern is the perfect cocktail dress for all your fancy fabrics. It features a fitted bodice with tie straps and a fun circle skirt. This dress is available in cup sizes A–DD, US sizes 2–26.

McCall’s M7832

The McCall’s M7832 is nice fit and flare dress with a couple of sleeve options. This pattern comes in cup sizes A–D, sizes 6–22.

McCall’s M7718

McCall’s M7718 is a great option for a floor length gown. There are a couple of strap options or you could choose the strapless bodice with boning. This dress is available in cup sizes A/B–D, sizes 6–22.

Bryant gown by Charm Patterns

The Bryant gown is a gorgeous mermaid style. It comes in a couple of style variations you can check out. The Bryant gown is available in cup sizes A–H, and in two size ranges, 2–20 and 18–34

Vogue V2010

Vogue V2010 is a fun halter dress available in cup sizes A–D, sizes 6–24.

Vintage style

Now this section is mostly just dresses by Charm patterns as Gertie and her team specialise in vintage patterns (😅). There is a free sewing pattern though below so check it out.

The Night and Day dress comes in over 70 combinations. It’s designed with so many style features to chose from so you can transition from a night time to a day dress with just a few swaps. This dress is available in cup sizes A–H and in two size ranges, sizes 2–20 and 18–34.

Free Ruby dress by SewYourTV

The Ruby dress is actually a free sewing pattern generously offered by SewYourTV. I categorised it as vintage-leaning purely because of the gorgeous back v-neckline. This pattern is available in cup sizes A-DD in sizes 0–20.

Maria dress by Charm Patterns

The Marie dress in a 1950s-inspired fit and flare dress. As with most of the dresses in this round up, it comes in a few style variations. This pattern comes in cup sizes A–H and in two size ranges, 2–20 and 18–34.

Carousel dress by Charm Patterns

I recently bought the Carousel dress and my toile fit like a glove (H cup)! The pattern is a sleeveless dress with a two skirt options. There is an expansion pack with sleeves and other cool add-on features. This pattern comes in cup sizes A–H and in two size ranges, 2–20 and 18–34.

Liz dress by Charm Patterns

Finally, we have the Liz dress, a 50’s inspired dress with a unique shelf bust. This comes in A–H cups, sizes 2–20.

Shirt dresses

Next we have a selection of shirt dresses that come in several cup sizes. The main features here are collars and button plackets. Check out my large bust shirt sewing patterns post (which I really need to update!)

Butterick B6702

Butterick B6702 is a classic shirt dress that comes in maxi length. This dress is available in cup sizes A/B–D, sizes 6–22.

Chai dress by Itch to Stitch

The Chai shirt dress is quite unique as it features soft pleats at the bust instead of darts, and has a little waistband before it flares into a skirt. It also comes with the option to add sleeves. This pattern is available in cup sizes A–DD, sizes 00–40.

Vivi dress by Pattern Scout

The Vivi dress features a notched collar and the option to add sleeves. This dress comes in cup sizes B–D, sizes 0–30.

Slip dresses

In this category we have two dresses. While one isn’t strictly a slip dress, it does have that simple effortless silhouette.

Ella dress by Pattern Scout

The Ella dress is a gorgeous bias-cut number with a pretty boat neckline. This pattern comes in B–D cup, sizes 0–30.

Raven dress by Designer Stitch

Pinafores

Pinafores are a kind of sleeveless dress that goes over a top and I’m happy to include three patterns that are large bust friendly.

Elmstead pinafore by Itch to Stitch

The Elmstead is a cute v-neck button-down pinafore with princess seams. This pattern is available in cup sizes A–DD, sizes 00–40.

Pippi pinafore by Jennifer Lauren Handmade

The Pippi pinafore features waist darts and playful cross-over straps in the back. This pattern is available in A–F cups, in sizes 6–34.

Callie pinafore by Designer Stitch

The Callie is a versatile pinafore option with different strap, skirt length and pocket options. This pattern comes in cup sizes B–DD, in US sizes 2–24.
