Free bias cut skirt sewing patterns

Bias cut skirts are cut at a 45-degree angle to the fabric grain, which gives them a nice fluid drape.

The bias-cut skirt pattern by Sparrow Refashion is a great starting point for anyone new to sewing on the bias. The tutorial walks you through all the little challenges you might run into when cutting on the bias. This skirt comes in five sizes XS–XL, with hip measurements ranging from around 35 to 42″.

Free circle and full skirt sewing patterns

Circle skirts have a lot of volume and are pretty easy to fit as they are dependent only on the waist circumference. Here are some free circle skirt patterns and be sure to check out my circle skirt resource page where I have free circle skirt patterns and drafting tutorials.

Free 3/4 circle skirt pattern by Sewspiratrice

This is my own free 3/4 circle skirt PDF pattern. A 3/4 circle gives you a lot of volume and movement without having to use as much fabric as a full circle skirt. This pattern is available in 21 sizes from waist 28–48″.

Charm Circle Skirt by Charm Patterns

The Charm circle skirt is a free vintage-inspired circle skirt with the perfect midi length, side seam pockets, a lapped zipper, and a hook-and-bar waistband. This pattern is available in two size ranges: 2–20, waist 24–42″ and 18-34, waist 40–56″.

Poodle skirt by Lekala

Lekala’s Poodle Skirt (#5273) is a free made-to-measure pattern, which means you enter your measurements to generate a custom-sized pattern. You may also choose from the standard sizes provided by Lekala. Check out what the Lekala community created using this pattern here.

Double Circle Skirt by Charm Patterns

Double the fulness in this double circle skirt by Charm Patterns. This free pattern is also available in two size ranges: 2–20, waist 24–42″ and 18-34, waist 40–56″.

Free wrap skirt sewing patterns

Wrap skirts are one of the easiest skirts to sew as they do not include any closures or fiddling with elastic.

Wrap tulip skirt by Sparrow Refashion

This wrap tulip skirt by Sparrow Refashion is perfecct for light to medium weight fabrics as it flares out beautifully at the hem. It is available in 8 sizes, with hip measurements ranging from 32.6 to 44.8 inches.

Cress skirt by Mood Fabrics

The Cress Skirt is quite similar to the tulip skirt above but features a fun ruffle. This pattern is available in 17 sizes with hip measurements 34.5–63″.

Wrap maxi skirt by Sparrow Refashion

This flowy wrap maxi skirt features with side ties instead of the classic wide waistband that most wrap skirts have. This pattern comes in 8 sizes, with hip measurements ranging from 32.6 to 44.8 inches.

Free mini skirt sewing patterns

Mini skirts keep making a comeback for good reason. Here are a few free options in different styles.

Kyra mini skirt by Tiana’s Closet

The Kyra is described as a high-waisted mini skirt with a yoke and ruffle detail. The free PDF is available at the bottom of the tutorial post. 10 sizes, XXS–5XL with the hip circumference ranging from 34.2 to 51.2 in.

Low-rise mini skirt by Korfiati

This modern mini by Korfiati is a low-rise skirt with an invisible zipper and should make for a quick beginner friendly sewing project. It comes in 5 sizes, for hips measuring 86–102 cm.

Double-breasted skirt by Unfettered Patterns

Free pleated skirt sewing patterns

These pleated skirts of various length are great sewing projects for adventurous beginners and advanced sewists alike.

Box pleated skirt by Coraline Street

This free box pleated skirt pattern features large box pleats all around. You can customise the length if you’d like. This skirt is available in 11 sizes, hip 88–128 cm (35–50″).

Pleated mini skirt by Coraline Street

This pleated mini skirt pattern is from Coraline Street’s free pattern collection. Pleats are a fun way to up the basic mini skirt silhouette.

Pleated mini skirt by Unfettered Patterns

Free tiered & gathered skirt sewing patterns

You don’t have to draft your own tiered skirt, there are quite a number of great free patterns that you can find out there.

Fuller tiered skirt by Sewing Therapy x CBC Life

The Fuller Tiered Skirt is part of a pay-as-you-can collection. It has five layers which makes for more drama and flair. This pattern is available in sizes 0–24, with hip measurements ranging from 84 cm to about 137 cm.

Suzy asymmetrical tiered skirt by Tiana’s Closet

The Suzy pattern takes a unique spin on tiered skirts with its asymmetrical tiers. This pattern comes in 10 sizes, XXS–5XL, hip 34.2 to 51.2 in.

Daylily skirt by Mood Fabrics

The Daylily Skirt is a gorgeous three-tier gathered maxi skirt. It’s first tier is a quasi-skirt yoke, making the pattern quite unique. This skirt comes in 17 sizes with hip measurements 34.5–63″.

Ruby skirt by Sew Over It

The Ruby pattern is a gathered midi skirt with a button placket, patch pockets and a half elasticated waistband. It is available in two size ranges: UK 6-20 and 18-30.

Free maxi skirt sewing patterns

A good maxi skirt pattern is one of the most versatile things you can have in your pattern stash. Here are a few very a couple of circle skirts for you to try.

Fiera maxi skirt by Mood Fabrics

The Fiera Maxi Skirt is a simple maxi with a waistband and zipper. There are plenty of possibilities in how you can style this skirt. The pattern is available in 18 sizes, 00–32, hip 34–63.5″.

Flowy Maxi Skirt by Lekala

Lekala’s Skirt pattern (#5135) is a classic made-to-measure maxi skirt with a center front seam and zipper in the back.w

Tailored Skirts

These skirts feature darts, panels and other design lines that give them a more elevated look and make them suitable for formal wear.

The Spoleto Skirt by Mood Fabrics

The Spoleto skirt features 3 panels in the back and front, and an asymmetrical seam that flares into an A-line silhouette. This pattern comes in nine sizes, with hip measurements ranging from 35–63″.

Three-seam skirt by Lekala

Lekala’s Three-Seam Skirt (#5088) is one of their most popular free patterns. This is a made-to-measure pattern so just plug in your measurements and generate your own file.

Libby A-line skirt by Tessuti Fabrics

This classic A-line skirt comes in three lengths and features two front darts as well as a waist facing in place of a waistband. The Libby is available in AU sizes 6–16.

Long tailored skirt with side slit by Unfettered Patterns

This long tailored woven skirt (#UP1057) features a side slit, back darts and a front and center seam. This pattern is available in seven sizes, XS–XL, hip 92–116 cm.

Gored skirt by Lekala

Lekala’s Gored Skirt (#54271) is a maxi-length skirt spiral shaped gores. This is such a fun ode to the 90s and early 2000s. As with all Lekala patterns, this skirt is made to measure. Simply enter your measurements and generate a PDF patttern.

Angie paneled trumpet skirt by Tiana’s Closet

Free pencil skirt sewing patterns

Pencil skirts and fitted midi skirts are wardrobe classics — structured, polished, and surprisingly versatile once you get the fit right.

Astrid flap pocket midi pencil skirt by Tiana’s Closet

The Lindy pencil skirt is designed for stable knit fabrics. It has a gorgeous petal shaped hemline. The skirt pattern comes in six sizes, XXS to XL, hip 86.5–124.

Elemental pencil skirt by Sew House Seven

The Elemental skirt pattern is designed for stretchier fabrics than the Lindy. It is available in two size ranges: 00–20 and 18–34, hip 34–52 in and 47–70 in, respectively.

Sycamore pencil skirt by Mood Fabrics
