3 Button-Down Shirt Sewing Patterns with Multiple Cup Sizes for Larger Busts
The sewing pattern market is full of many button-down shirts, but for those of us with larger busts, finding a pattern that doesn't result in annoying gaping or require a full bust adjustment can be a real challenge. As a DD cup, I totally understand the struggle! Most sewing patterns are designed for B cups, that is, a 2-inch difference between the bust and high bust measurements. In my quest for a button-down shirt pattern to add to my capsule wardrobe, I've found a few sewing patterns that offer multiple cup sizes. I've personally purchased at least one pattern from each of the designers I'll mention below so I can vouch for their high quality. Now that we're done with the preamble, let's dive in and explore these 3 patterns.
1. Vernon Shirt by Cashmerette
First up, we have a sewing pattern from Cashmerette, an indie pattern company that specializes in sewing patterns for people with larger busts. The Vernon shirt comes in an impressive size range of 0 - 32, with each size drafted in C-G cups. This darted button-up shirt offers two views: one is a simple classic button-down shirt, and the other features dramatic balloon-style sleeves with gathers. The Vernon shirt offers a more structured fit compared to the two patterns I'll mention below so if that's the look you are going for, this pattern is perfect for you.Check out the Vernon Shirt hashtag on Instagram to see what other sewists have made.
2. Montana Shirt by Itch to Stitch
The second button-down shirt I'd like to highlight is Itch to Stitch's Montana Shirt. This is another classic button-up but in a more relaxed and casual variation. The Montana shirt comes in sizes ranging from 00 to 20, and each of the 12 sizes offers cup sizes A, B, C, D, and DD. Its relaxed fit comes primarily from its dropped-shoulder sleeves. Like the Vernon shirt, this darted shirt is offered in two styles: the classic relaxed button-down and one with front ties, a version I'm eager to try for my next vacation.Check out the Montana Shirt hashtag on Instagram to see what other sewists have made using this pattern:
3. Byrdie Button Up Blouse by Pattern Scout
The Byrdie button-up sewing pattern by Pattern Scout is a blouse AND dress sewing pattern. This pattern comes in sizes 0-28 with options for B, C, or D cup bust sizes. Its standout feature is its gorgeous curved hem. Like the two patterns above, Byrdie comes in two views: one is a relaxed classic button-up shirt, and the second is a more intricate blouse with pin tucks and a band collar. In addition to the written instructions that come with the pattern, there's a YouTube video tutorial on how to sew the Byrdie blouse on the Pattern Scout YouTube Channel. So, if you're not feeling very confident about sewing a shirt, this is a good option.Check out the Byrdie Button-up hashtag on Instagram to see what fellow sewists have made.
Conclusion
I can't stress enough how much I appreciate designers who include additional cup size options in their sewing patterns. Props to Cashmerette, Itch to Stitch, and Pattern Scout. That's it for this blog post. Feel free to share any other shirt patterns that are cup size inclusive.Happy Sewing!
