Free 3/4 Circle Skirt PDF Pattern Download (Inclusive,21 Sizes)

My favourite thing to sew for other people is a circle skirt, specifically a three quarter circle skirt. In my opinion, a 3/4 circle skirt has the perfect amount of fullness. I’ve written several posts about circle skirts as part of an ongoing series, and this free 3/4 circle skirt PDF pattern is the final piece. I’m so excited to finally share it.

About This Free 3/4 Circle Skirt Pattern

This free three quarter circle skirt pattern was generated using Sewist CAD software as a and is a parametric sewing pattern. This means that the pattern is adjusted dynamically based on specific measurements. I want to be upfront and say that it has not been tested by a group of pattern testers, however, I do have confidence in it.

A circle skirt is based on a single waist circumference measurement. Because this is a parametric pattern, each size was generated directly from a specific waist measurement, with no other variables involved. Each circle skirt goes in increments of 1 in, from 28 to 48 in at the waist, bringing us to a total of 21 sizes. You can check out my drafting tutorial for 3/4 circle skirts to learn more.

How to Choose Your Size

This pattern uses only your waist measurement to determine your size. Here’s how to get it:

Take a snug measurement of your natural waist without any clothing. This matters because I’ve already incorporated around ¾ in of ease into the pattern.

Your size name will look like: W28, W29, W30… all the way up to W48. W signifies the waist circumference and the number corresponds to the actual measurements in inches. Find the file that matches your measurement and use that one.

Printing and Assembling the Pattern

Printing:

This is an A4 PDF pattern that will work on US Letter paper too. Select your paper size in your printer settings. For scaling, choose one of the following options: ‘100%’, ‘Actual Size’ or ‘No Scale’. Print the first page only and check that the test box measures correctly. If it does, print the rest of the pattern.

Assembling the pattern pages:

The pattern pages use a grid numbering system such that each page is labelled with two numbers separated by a slash, 1/1, 1/2, 2/1, 2/2. The first number is the row and the second is the column. Trim the pages and tape them as arranged below.

About the Measurements Printed on the Pattern Piece

Because this pattern was generated using parametric CAD software, each pattern piece is automatically labelled with a set of body measurements separated by slashes, in cm. Please ignore these when choosing your size.

The sizes in this pattern were drafted in inches and W28, W29… W48 refers to your waist measurement in inches. Because the software rounds the metric conversions, those numbers can look inconsistent across sizes: you might see one size increase by 3 cm and the next by only 2 cm.

Supplies & Cutting Layout:

Fabric & other materials

  • Fabric (see yardage below)- Pretty much any woven fabric for this skirt. Stiffer, heavier fabrics won’t drape well, but they are great if you want more structure. Avoid slippery fabrics like chiffon if you are a total beginner.
  • Lightweight fusible interfacing
  • Invisible zipper
  • Matching thread

The skirt is 60 cm (~ 24 inches) long from waist to hem. The estimated yardage below assumes you are using fabric that is around 150 cm / 60 in wide.

Cutting Layout:

From main fabric you will have 1 skirt pattern piece and 1 waistband piece. You need the following:

  • 2 skirt pieces cut on fold (main fabric)
  • 4 waistband pieces cut on fold (main fabric)
  • 2 waistband pieces cut on fold (lightweight fusible interfacing)

There are two suggested cutting layouts depending on your size group, W28–W38 and W39–W48 files. Feel free to change the grainline position and cutting layout; this is my suggestion based on 150 cm / 60 in wide fabric.

If you find yourself in the size range, W28–W38, you may use the following layout as the pattern pieces will fit the fabric width with the grainline parallel to the foldline. Pieces shown (as traced on fold) below.

For W39–W48, the grainline has been repositioned to allow the larger pieces to fit within the same fabric width, such that the traced pieces (on fold) would look like the image below:
